Museum of History Gets New Education Curator

The St. Petersburg Museum of History has named Nevin D. Sitler as their new Education Curator. He holds a BA in Political Science and a Masters Degree in Florida Studies, both from the University of South Florida-St. Petersburg.

Sitler has been associated with the museum for the past four years, serving in a variety of paid and volunteer positions, most recently as web master of the museum's website.

Referring to himself as a "transplanted
Florida native," Sitler settled here following an Air Force tour of duty as an aviation firefighter. While completing his undergraduate studies and working for the St. Petersburg Times, he developed an interest in kayaking and exploring Florida's rich history.

Those passions combined even further when he was among the first group of students in 2004 to be accepted in a new Florida Studies graduate program developed by USF professors Gary R. Mormino, PhD, and Raymond Arsenault, PhD.

Sitler will work closely with Executive Director Dr. George Banez and Marketing Director Rinita Anderson focusing on the continual growth and the expansion of their education programs.

"One of my responsibilities with the museum will be to develop fun and interesting programs that show how history works," Sitler said. "A connection between the past and the present."
